Joint International Symposium on US/EU Patent Practice 2022

Schedule : at AP Marunouchi and simultaneously online

Associated People

The Oblon and Maiwald firms are pleased to announce the Joint Symposium on: U.S. and European Patent Practice – Important Aspects for Practitioners. This will take place in-person and virtually on October 6 at 13:00 JST.

At this joint international symposium, we will present recent developments and current aspects of IP practice in the U.S. and Europe. With the upcoming start of the Unitary Patent system and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in Europe, new opportunities for applicants and patent owners will become available.  U.S. Supreme Court jurisprudence on eligibility consistently changes with upcoming new technologies, requiring in-depth analysis of patent-eligible subject matter.

Last year, we held a series of joint symposia as online webinars due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  With the improving pandemic situation, we will conduct the symposia this year again as an in-person meeting, with all required safety measures.  You will also have the opportunity to attend online should you prefer.  We hope that you will join us in-person at the AP Marunouchi forum!

At this 2022 symposium, we will together examine current developments in patent practice from the U.S. and European perspectives.  Applicants and patent owners need to be aware of upcoming additional options and peculiarities of the patent systems in the U.S. and Europe, which do not always align.  We will together explore strategies for navigating through the most recent changes.  Each topic will be scheduled for approximately forty-five minutes and a following Question-and-Answer session. In particular, the hybrid symposium will address in detail the following topics for today’s practitioners:

  1. Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court in EP – are you prepared?
  2. Eligible subject matter– an update from a U.S. perspective
  3. Support, Amendments, and enablement – EP and U.S. perspectives
Oblon speakers: James Love and Yuki Onoe

If you plan to attend, please register via e-mail by sending an e-mail to empfang@maiwald.eu or patentconference@oblon.com, indicating whether you wish to attend in-person at the AP Marunouchi or online.  For online participants, the invitation links will be sent to you in return and will be valid until the start of the event.  Please note that registration by e-mail is only possible up to 24hrs before the symposium.
